About Us

Elder Help-Peel was established April 11, 1996 by a group of seniors who were interested in bringing diverse seniors to work collaboratively to benefit each other.

The group met at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brampton. The facility was free of charge but not wheel chair accessible. Moreover, it posed a possible barrier to participation to seniors who were not of the Christian faith. Consequently, the group moved to the premises of the Canadian Red Cross Society (Brampton) and briefly met on a weekly basis at this facility. It was free of charge.

In the meantime the group applied and was successful in securing three years funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. As a result, on February 14, 1997 the group moved to 17 Dean Street, hired a part-time program coordinator and recruited its first Board of Directors. In 2012, Elder Help Peel moved to 37 George Street North, Unit 102, Brampton, Ontario, L6X 1R5.

As of July 2018, our current location is 6 George St. South, Unit 2B, Brampton, Ontario, L6Y 1L9.

Today, Elder Help is one of the the few agencies that continues to provide excellent information, education and supportive services to diverse elderly persons residing in the Peel Region. These services are critical in helping shape the community as the population ages so that seniors continue to be valued and relevant in our community.

Elder Help-Peel had its first open house on September 11, 1997. On March 27, 1998 became incorporated and on July 10, 1998 obtained its charitable status.
