The Power of Feminism: Lady Aberdeen

Lady Aberdeen (born Ishbel Marie Marjoribanks) was the wife of Lord Aberdeen, Canada’s Governor General from 1893 to 1898. Born at a time when women, especially upper-class women, were supposed to be devote themselves to their husband and act as hostess for society parties, Lady Aberdeen was a social activist and early feminist. She established the National Council of Women of Canada, the Victorian Order of Nurses, and the May Court Club, leaving a lasting mark on Ottawa and Canada more generally.
